Revamping My Writing Space

“When I create, it’s like the Sun’s warmth touching my skin after a deluge of rain. I’m in my happy zone once again.” – Lorna Knoppp

Let’s face it – this year has not been kind to most of us. For us writers, the rolling lock-downs and stay-at-home routine can be stifling.

I don’t know about you guys but where I am, the case numbers have been growing. Over all, India has not been handling COVID well and as much as I feel the urge to go on a spontaneous cross-country road-trip with my friends, the adventures are going to have to wait.

Writing from home during these times can be a challenge, especially for those juggling full-time jobs, family commitments and the stresses of day-to-day life during a pandemic. But creating a safe space for you to write in is important.

One of the major reasons I’ve been feeling uninspired is the lack of a new setting. Madurai is a small town and having lived in big, happening cities all my life, my move here in January was tough enough under normal circumstances. Throw in the lack of social connections, opportunities to go out and the four, white walls of my bedroom where I’ve been writing since coming hereclaustrophobic much?

I’m looking for ways to spruce up my writing space and make it brighter and more inspiring. For now, the space is just a small corner of my room but it doesn’t have to be as stifling as it feels. I’ve been steadily adding some things to my online shopping cart over the last two days to make the room feel more like my own.

Cause the truth is, I’m going to be here longer than I planned for and the world isn’t going to turn COVID-free overnight. But I don’t have to wait for some big, impossible transformation to happen in order to feel creatively inspired.

I can still create tiny miracles of my own, even if that’s just through a little room and desk decor.
